Florida charges 17-year old as mastermind of Twitter hack of the famous
Their victims included Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Bills Gates, Elon Musk, Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian. Other victims were Mike Bloomberg and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
Under arrest are 17-year-old Graham Clark of Tampa, Florida charged as the mastermind of a hacking conspiracy for soliciting investments in bitcoin on July 15 by bogus messages planted under the hijacked famous profiles. The tweets offered $2,000 for every $1,000 sent to an anonymous address. Clark got away with $100,000. He was aided and abetted by Mason Shepherd, 19, from Bognor Regis, the UK, and Nima Fazeli, 22, of Orlando, Florida.
US Attorney Anderson said: “Criminal conduct over the Internet may feel stealthy to the people who perpetrate it, but there is nothing stealthy about it. I want to say to would-be offenders, break the law, and we will find you.”
Clark faces 30 felony charges for “scamming people across America” in a “highly sophisticated attack on a magnitude not seen before.”
