FM Lieberman: I’m sure Hamas leader Deif is dead
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Sunday in answer to a question: “If we haven’t heard Muhammed Deif’s voice till now, there is room for optimism that he is dead.” DEBKAfile: This argument is specious, because the Hamas military commander’s voice was not heard for years, even before Israel’s air strike on his residence on Aug. 19 during the Gaza war. The only time it was heard was on July 29, Day 22 of the conflict. After the Israeli attack, the bodies were found of his wife and son, but not Deif’s. It is therefore likely that he made his escape without waiting to save them. Whether or not he was injured is moot.
