Forcible feeding of prisoners on hunger strike permitted by new law

A law permitting forcible feeding of prisoners on hunger strike if their lives are at risk passed its first reading in the Knesset Monday night. The Prisons Commissioner is empowered under this law to ask the district court for a permit to administer medical treatment. This applies to the hundreds of Palestinian prisoners on prolonged hunger strike for some weeks. Some are hospitalized.
