Former PM Nawaz Sharif claims victory in Pakistan vote

Partial results point to the victory of Nawaz Sharif, twice Pakistan prime minister, and cricket star Imran Khan a close second in Pakistan’s first civil transfer of power in its 66-year history.
Hours after polling stations opened across Pakistan Saturday morning, four bomb blasts hit Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar. Two killed at least 17 people and injured 22, at the Awami National Party (ANP) offices in Karachi. ANP is one of the three secular liberal parties targeted by the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. The turnout was high among Pakistan's 84 million registered voters was high despite Taliban's efforts to violently sabotage the vote.
