France suspends fuel hikes, surrenders to violent protesters

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has declared a 6-month moratorium on the increase in fuel taxes, after mass demonstrations and violent unrest swept in the country. He also announced a three-month freeze on electricity and gas price hikes. President Emmanuel Macron called off his trip to Serbia to deal with the crisis as protesters rejected the government decisions. They are demanding complete cancellation of the price hikes and key social benefits.
