French weekly: Israel gives arms to Nusra, al Qaeda’s Syrian branch

The French satirical magazine Le Canard Enchainé reports that Israel is passing military equipment to the Syrian branch of al Qaeda, Jabhat al Nusra. DEBKAfile disclosed in recent months that the IDF has been extending military assistance, as part of a joint program with the US, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, to select Syrian rebel groups fighting Assad’s army in southern Syria. Some of this assistance has reached the hands of local Nusra Front elements fighting with those rebels – but in no other parts of Syria.
