Fresh Israeli-Jordanian tension over insult to Israeli flag
Jordan’s trade unions council Wednesday ordered all branches to lay large Israeli flags at the entrances to their offices so that people there could not avoid treading on them. Jordan’s information minister walked over the flag when she arrived at the council’s headquarters in Amman. In reply to a sharp Israeli protest, the Jordanians replied: “Jordan respects its peace accord with Israel.” This was taken as adding insult to injury, meaning that Jordan does not respect the Israeli flag.
