G-20 meet in shadow of ISIS attacks, but have no answer for terror
The G-20 summit of the world's biggest economies began in Antalya, Turkey on Sunday. At the beginning of the summit, US President Obama said Washington will double its attacks on ISIS forces. He mentioned the recent terror attacks in Paris and Ankara but not the downing of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula.
Obama and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin shook hands and exchanged a few words at the start of the meeting. US sources said there will be more opportunities for a meeting on the sidelines of the summit.
DEBKAfile sources: Despite their statements promising concerted action, none of the 20 leaders have the ability to effectively fight ISIS. In particular, the vow to increase attacks seems somewhat unconvincing as the US has no aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean or the Persian Gulf from which to launch such operations.
