Gantz defends justice system without naming Netanyahu

Alternate PM Benny Gantz told his Kahol Lavan lawmakers on Wednesday: “Just as Israel needs a well-functioning government it also needs a strong and independent justice system.” Without naming names, Gantz made this oblique response to PM Binyamin Netanyahu’s stinging attack on the justice system at the opening of his trial on charges of corruption on Sunday. “Guarding the rule of law is not a personal matter but a national interest,” said Gantz. “The rule of law and equality before the law are supreme values of democracy. We possess all the tools needed for safeguarding those values- both in the form of legislation and government decisions, and we shall use all those tools as needed.”
