German shipyard is building corvettes to secure Israel’s offshore rigs
The ceremony marking the start of construction at a German shipyard of four Sa’ar 6-corvettes, for securing Israel’s offshore oil and gas rigs, was attended Wednesday by Israel’s Navy commander, Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit. The ships will be armed with ship-to-ship missiles, missile interceptors and Iron Dome systems adapted for marine use. Sections of their hulls will be invisible to radar. The first corvette will be delivered to the Israeli Navy in a year’s time. The cost of the transaction was half a million euros.

No love for The Germans but those ships will not be “garbage”. Unfortunately, the Germans had the best weapon systems in WW2. They were defeated because Uncle Joe and Uncle Sam out produced them by 10 to 1.
We had Air, Naval, and Artillery Superiority…they didn’t stand a chance.
Ask any Tanker in a Sherman what they thought of German Tanks and what they thought of their own!

Again, I am not a booster of WW2 Germany, but the facts speak for themselves.
It took four or five UK/US Tanks to knock out a Tiger or Panther. They could only do so from the rear or flank, where the armor was weakest.
The main strategic reason for Germany losing the War, (Thank G-d), was that they opened up a front with The USSR. That being said, by 1942, The Commies were fielding T-34’s, and upgraded heavy tanks, which were a match for the later model German Tanks. The Commies produced tanks in mass quantities too.
Review your Historical Sources…The only US Tank that had parity with The Panzer 5 or Tiger was The Pershing, which was fielded in late 1944…
Incidentally, the Tanks Germany produces today, are still ranked among the World’s best!

While not rubbish, you miss a lot in your analysis. German tanks were great, but also rubbish. Manufacturing wasn’t up to par with either America or Britain. Tiger tanks, broke down at a rate of 70% per 400 kilometres travelled. Were hard to repair. In total, Germany produced 1300 throughout the war. They cost hundreds of man hours in expert welding, etc, etc. Conversely, in one month alone at peak production, the US pumped out over 1400 Shermans. Germany never stood a chance.
By the time Germany launched its Invasion of USSR, russia had already fielded 2000 t-34’s.
98% of all German logistic supplies were taken from rail head to front by horse drawn cart. America sent 300,000 Duece and a half trucks to Europe, and not one Horse.

You are correct. When German vessels and weapon systems were examined, their allied counterparts were amazed at the craftsmanship. That was the problem, while the Germans built excellent ships, America slapped together ships with the main purpose to be gun platforms. It was all about delivering shells to the enemy, not a well built target.

Which doesnt include any of the radars, ECW, Strike or defence missiles, never mind the Italian naval gun that will be fitted, nor the C&C systems, sonar, torpedoes, etc etc, all of which will be provided by local Israeli companies and fitted at the Haifa shipyard.
So cost of each one will be closer to $250 million. Ignore the typo in the report.
Also, German govt is providing subsidies to the tune of about a quarter off. Call it buy 3 get 1 free. Keeps German naval capacity at low subsidy rates and Israel get bigger Saar 5’s at a slight discount..

The Germans, like most Arms Dealers will sell to the enemies of Israel too. As for poor quality, Israel’s Military always improves the weapons systems and works out the kinks.
My take, save the money by carpet bombing S. Lebanon….A good preemptive strike might negate the need for the Corvettes.
If GW Bush had any balls – which he did not – a WWII style amphibious landing in S. Lebanon would have occurred 9/12/01, with a General Sherman- like march straight from there to Teheran leaving a 60 mile wide swathe of destruction behind, and decapitating Hezbollah, the lisping Syrian optometrist, Sadaam, and the Iranian mullahs in the process.
