Global deaths from coronavirus rise to 100,000

The global death toll from coronavirus rose on Friday to 100,000. The number of confirmed cases recorded was 1.6 million. Britain had its worst day with 980 new deaths, boosting the overall toll to 6,958. PM Boris Johnson is on his way to recovering from the virus and expected back at work soonest.
