Gunmen kill at least 5 people in terrorist attack in southern Jordan
Unidentified gunmen drove into the southern Jordanian tourist town of Karakh in four cars on Sunday shooting in all directions. They killed at least four police officers and a female Canadian tourist, wounded nine others including polilce, when they targeted a police station and patrols. More tourists may be among the wounded victims. DEBKAfile’s sources report that the kingdom of Jordan has declared a terror alert and closed its borders, as they hunt for the gunmen. Karakh is a tourist destination known for one of the biggest Crusader castles in the region, located around 120 kilometers south of the capital Amman. The attack appears to have been aimed deliberately at a tourist center in Jordan on the same lines as Islamist terrorist hits in recent years against tourist targets in Egypt and Tunisia.
