Gunmen kill Egyptian police general on day of Morsi trial
Security forces in Cairo report that a gunman on a motorbike shot dead Gen. Mohamed Saeed, head of the Interior Ministry’s technical office, as former President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood arrived in the capital to stand trial. Morsi is charged with escaping from prison in 2011 at the peak of the anti-Mubarak revolution. Deposed by the military last July after mass protests against his Islamic rule, Brotherhood adherents continue to demonstrate for his release. Morsi faces four separate criminal trials.
