Gunmen storm Shiite mosque in Kabul. At least 20 dead
Gunmen set of an explosion killing a security guard before pushing into a Shiite mosque in Kabul that was packed with Friday prayers worshippers. They killed the cleric leading the service along with at least 20 people, and injured more than 50. The police who encircled the mosque stayed outside to prevent further casualties, they said, as gunfire and explosions were heard inside.
While the attack was still ongoing, the Islamic State group's affiliate in Afghanistan claimed responsibility. Its Aamaq news agency said two of its fighters carried out the attack.
