Hamas seeking Cairo talks despite being accused of murder, reports say
A Hamas delegation will visit Cairo soon to try to hold talks with senior Egyptian officials, according to reports in Gazan and Egyptian social media on Thursday. DEBKAfile's intelligence sources report that a meeting scheduled between Khaled Mashaal, head of the Hamas political office, and the commander of Egyptian intelligence did not take place following accusations by Egypt's interior minister that Hamas was responsible for the June 2015 murder of chief prosecutor Hisham Barakat in Cairo. DEBKAfile sources estimate that even if a meeting is held this time, it will not bear fruit.
