Hamas supporters in UK could face up to 10 years jail under new law
British Home Secretary Priti Patel to announce a new amendment of the Terorist Law for proscribing Hamas during a visit to Washington. The measure she plans to table in Parliament next week will also help to combat antisemitism, she said. Calling Hamas “fundamentally and rabidly antisemitic,” Patel said that henceforth, “anyone who flies a Hamas flag or arranges meetings for the organization will be in breach of the law” and face up to 10 years in jail. This will be a vital step towards protecting the Jewish community, she stressed. Until now, the UK only banned Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Hamas has already been designated an outlawed terrorist organization by the US, Canada and the EU, meaning that its assets can be seized and its members jailed.
