Head of US CENTCOM in first visit to Israel for talks on Syria, Iran

Gen. Joseph Votel is the first head of the US military’s Central Command to pay an official visit to Israel. He will meet IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gady Eisenkot, National Security adviser Meir Shabbat and other senior defense officials. They will talk about Syria, Iran and other developments in the region as well as strengthening ties between the two armies, the IDF announced. The CENTCOM head commands US troops in Syria. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that his visit to Israel is linked to President Donald Trump’s plan to pull US troops out of Syria in the face of Israel’s opposition amid concern that Iranian forces will step into the ensuing vacuum.

Taking is good, but moving some US troops in Israel is even better.
Why not target for the best?

The French should replace American troupes with 6000 French Legionaries and heavy armor. The US has to keep its air and intelligence there. Syria and Lebanon are primarily French interests from the time of the League of Nations mandate. France pulled out of Viet Nam after pulling the US “Advisers” into that cesspool. It’s time for them to pay up, and help to defend the European front against Russian and Iranian aggression. Turkey is out of NATO, and Israel can’t do it all alone.

Likely the real purpose is co-ordinating a US – Israeli response to impending Russian/Iranian/Syrian military action.
