Heavy Russian-Syrian air bombardment of ISIS in Deir ez-Zor

ISIS forces in the eastern Syrian Desert province of Deir ez-Zor took heavy Russian and Syrian air strikes Saturday. The planes took off from the Shayrat Air base near Palmyra.  DEBKAfile: The air strikes aimed at clearing the path of pro-Iranian Iraqi Shiite militias which have reached the Syria-Iraqi border on their way to seize control of ISIS-held Abu Kamal.
