Historic EU summit endorses Brexit deal with the UK
The 27 remaining leaders of the European Union meeting in Brussels on Sunday backed the UK withdrawal agreement after less than an hour’s discussion. The deal caps 18 months of negotiations with the EU led by UK PM Theresa May. European Council President Donald Tusk tweeted: “EU27 has endorsed the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration on the future EU-UK relations.”
The agreement for the UK’s exit in March comes before the House of Commons in early December. . A daunting array of opponents promises to defeat it, including a rebellion in the prime minister’s own Conservative party. If May fails to get it through, her main options are a new election or a second Brexit referendum. EU leaders stressed that the deal endorsed was final and will not be renegotiated.
Brexit is so awfully restful
When you’re brit there’s nothing it lacks
And if it should turn out successful
Her Majesty should lower your tax.
