Hizballah is fighting ISIS in Mayadin with ultra-powerful TOS-1A rocket launchers

DEBKAfile’s military sources reveal that Hizballah forces taking part in the operation to drive ISIS out of the eastern Syrian town of Mayadin have been equipped with the fearsome Russian-made TOS-1A rocket launchers, considered to be the most powerful conventional weapon in the world.

It consists of a heavy flamethrower with 24 launchers mounted on a Russian T-72 tank. It is capable of blanketing an area of 2-5 sq. km to totally obliterate enemy concentrations, along with their fortifications and armored vehicles. Propyl-nitrate and light magnesium fuel give the TOS-1A the extra power that makes it almost as destructive as a tactical nuclear weapon. Until now, it was confined to Russian and Syrian units.
