Hooded gunmen fire on police in Marseille

Heavily armed French elite police forces poured into the scene after hooded gunmen fired on police in Marseille Monday when Prime Minister Manuel Valls was on his way to visit the southern French city. They have cordoned off the area. Unconfirmed sources say that the head of police was shot at by one of the Kalashnikov-armed men. The attack took place in a high-crime, low-cost housing district of Marseille. The town is known both for its large North African community and gang wars.
