Firemen fighting blazes swept by high winds and dry, hot weather evacuated people from their homes on Wednesday. The fire brigade declared an emergency before closing several main roads to traffic, and summoning air support. Dwellers of the Judean village of Ramat Pinkas were evacuated as five of their homes were engulfed in flames, as were the residents of the Aderet and Roglit moshavim near Beit Shemesh in the Jerusalem Hills. People were ordered to leave 100 homes in the towns of Wadi Ara northeast of Tel Aviv. No casualties are reported.
