IDF combat soldiers to carry firearms off duty
In view of the prevalence of Palestinian terrorist attacks in civilian locations, IDF Chief of Staff Gady Eisenkot issued new orders for combat soldiers to keep their weapons when going off duty. Until now, they handed their guns in before going on leave except in special circumstances. The order was changed Monday following a public outcry after 1st Sgt Yanai Weissman, 21, was stabbed to death on Feb. 18 when he took on a Palestinian terrorist on a killing rampage in a supermarket although he was unarmed.
