IDF soldier swept up in a flooded wadi dies of drowning

A soldier, on a training hike, was pulled out on Monday from the flooded Hilazon Stream near the northern town of Carmiel in critical condition. It was too late to save his life.  A number of emergency rescue units, including the air force, helped retrieve him from the surging current. Three other soldiers on the hike were rescued and evacuated to the Nahariya medical center suffering from hyperthermia. This week, unusually wet and cold weather hit the region. Maj. Gen. Nadav Padan, head of the Central Command ordered a high-level inquiry into the tragedy.
