Political polemic has no place in the Israeli Defense Forces, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gady Eisenkot said Tuesday. He sentenced Capt. Amir Jemal to two weeks; suspension from duty for posting his views against the Nation Law on social media. He was first cautioned that people serving in the armed forces are not at liberty to take part in political debates. A number of Druze officers serving in reserves also published an appeal to leave the political controversy over the Nation Law outside the armed services. The Druze community’s leader, Sheikh Muwafaq Tarif, after meeting with Gen. Eisenkot, weighed in with an injunction to his followers to exclude political controversy from the IDF.
