Important Haredi Rabbi passes away aged 104
Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, a widely respected adjudicator of Jewish law in the haredi (ultra-religious) community, and leader of the non-Hassidic “Lithuanian” group of European descent, passed away Tuesday morning at the age of 104. He served as head of the Council of Torah Sages of the Degel Hatorah political party as part of his public work. The rabbi’s funeral takes place in Bnei Berak later Tuesday. Traffic police are out in force to control the crowds streaming to the cemetery from all parts of the country to pay their respects.
