In televised overture to Trump, Putin calls for cooperation in war on terror
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday called on US President-elect Donald Trump to cooperate with him in fighting international terror. He said in a televised speech to the Russian nation that the Kremlin is ready to work with Trump's administration but that the two countries should first normalize their ties and develop the bilateral relationship. Putin's overture may pose a dilemma for Trump in light of the close cooperation between Russia, Iran and the Hizballah organization. Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in the Turkish city of Alanya to discuss the crisis in Syria and ways of ending it.
