India sees new covid-19 record
Nearly 4,000 coronavirus deaths and more than 412,000 new cases were logged by India in the last 24 hours, setting a grim new record. The country’s caseload since the pandemic began now numbers 21.1 million. The World Health Organization says that India, home to some 1.4 billion people, 18pc of the world’s population, accounted last week for 46pc of global covid cases and 25pc of global deaths. Assistance for combating the pandemic is streaming to the country from world nations, including Israel, which is sending medications, respirators and other medical equipment.
