Indian opposition leader Modi wins landslide – early results
Opposition candidate Narendra Modi will be the next prime minister of India, according to partial election results, and will end the long rule of the Gandhi family's Congress party, which conceded defeat early Friday. The pro-business Hindu Nationalist party (BJP) has won the most decisive mandate since the 1984 assassination of Indira Ghandi propelled her son to office. Modi will be able to rule without coalition parties and carry out the sweeping changes he promised to energize the economy. India’s stock markets celebrated Friday by soaring to a record high.
