The Iran-backed Iraqi PMU is ready to act against Kurdish secession

Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU), which takes its orders from Tehran, issued a mixed message Saturday through the Lebanese al-Mayadeen: The PMU would “not rush to a civil war” after the Kurdistan’s President Masoud Barzani conducted an independence referendum in the republic, but would not “allow the separatists to take the Kurds from their Iraqi brothers.”  Its spokesman Ahmad al-Assadi stressed measures to recapture Kirkuk and its oilfields which the Kurdish Peshmerga has controlled since 2014.
