Iran strikes anti-West, anti-Israel note for Tehran Non-Aligned summit
Iran’s foreign minister Ali-Akbar Salehi told the experts-level meeting Sunday of the 120-nation Non-Aligned summit opening in Tehran Aug. 26 that “criminal measures of the Israeli regime were the biggest threat to the region” and sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program contradict the UN Charter. Foreign intervention in regional issues is non-acceptable, he said, but NAM would present “a comprehensive solution for the Syrian crisis” – code for supporting the Assad regime. The UN is need of “structural reform” he said, to make it “more democratic.”
DEBKAfile: Iran’s hosting of this broad summit and arrogant push of its anti-West policies are marks of US and Israeli inaction on Iran’s nuclear program and overseas terrorism. The summit’s star participant is Indian PM Manmohan Singh, whose government constantly expands its imports of Iranian oil at cut prices.
