Iranian cultural attaché among 23 dead in twin bombings in Beirut

The Lebanese Health Minister said 23 people were killed and 146 injured in two suicide bombing attacks in Beirut Tuesday –  one against the Iranian embassy, the other in Hizballah’s southern stronghold of Dahya. An Iranian Shiite cleric and several embassy guards were also killed. According to some reports, the suicide bombers blew up booby-trapped cars against their targets.

Hizballah’s Al-Manar correspondent quoted security sources suggesting that the first explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber on a motorbike who blew himself up against the building and the security personnel crowding around, while a second suicide bomber stormed the building with his car, causing significant damage in lives and property.
