Iranian firebrand Ahmadinejad launches another bid for presidency

Iran's ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad registered Wednesday as a candidate in his country's May 19th presidential election. He acted counter to an instruction by Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei not to enter the race. The registration of candidates runs from Tuesday until Saturday, with the final list to be published on April 27. Among the main candidates are incumbent President Hassan Rouhani, known for his relatively moderate views; cleric Ebrahim Raisi, who is close to the supreme leader; and Hamid Baghaei, a confidante of Ahmadinejad.
