Iranian general killed in action against ISIS in Iraq

Iranian Brig. Gen. Hamid Taghavi was killed in battle against ISIS in the Iraqi city of Samarra north of Baghdad. According to a statement by the Revolutionary Guards in Tehran, the general was “martyred on a mission to advise the army and Iraqi volunteers.” DEBKAfile: The statement is misleading: Gen. Taghavi was commander in chief of Iran’s Iraqi Shiite militias, who are fighting the Islamic State under the aegis of the Rev. Guards.
