Iranian Guards chief meets Assad at Aleppo
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Iranian Revolutionary Guards chief Brig. Gen. Esmail Ghaani was secretly in Syria from Feb. 8 to Feb. 13, accompanied by his deputy, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi. They held a string of conferences with key figures. They included. Col, Gen. Andrey Serdyukov, commander of Russian forces in Syria, followed by Latakia provincial governor Amer Ismail Hilal. His last meeting was with the President Bashar Assad, who came to Aleppo on the 13th for a long conversation with his Iranian visitors at the local international airport.
