Iranian national security advisor arrives in Moscow for talks on Syrian war
Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for talks on the situation in Syria. No details were released regarding whom he will meet and how much time he will spend in the Russian capital.
DEBKAfile: It is the first time for the Iranian leadership to send Shamknani, formerly commander of Iran's air force and one of the top commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), to Moscow for consultations on the war in Syria.
Until now, Tehran had dispatched Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan or Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC's Al Qods Brigades, for such talks.
