Iranian president to pay first visit to Damascus

 President Ebrahim Raisi will next month be the first Iranian president to call on Bashar Assad in Damascus since the onset of the Syrian civil war in 2011. It is part of the diplomatic offensive launched by Tehran in the wake of its resumption of diplomat ties with Riyadh and Assad’s reinstatement by fellow Arab leaders.
