Iran’s FM Zarif in Beirut pushes for unity government
Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif is taking a hand during a visit to Beirut in the formation of a Lebanese unity government and the selection of Lebanon’s next president, DEBKAfile’s Middle East sources report. Zarif has held meetings with the heads of all the political factions, starting with Iran’s surrogate Shiite Hizballah and also consulted with them on a successor to President Michel Suleiman who soon ends his term of office, including its extension.
