Iran’s Guards chief rejects UN SC resolution endorsing nuclear deal
Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps commander Mohammed Ali Jafari was quoted as saying by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency that the UN Security Council resolution unanimously Monday accepting the Vienna nuclear deal was unacceptable. “Some parts crossed the Islamic republic’s red lines, especially on Iran’s military capabilities. We will never accept it.” The draft curbs Iran’s nuclear program in return for sanctions relief, but re-UN penalties may be re-imposed during the next decade if Tehran breaches the deal. No sanctions relief will be implemented until the International Atomic Energy Agencyverifies to the SC that Iran has taken nuclear-related measures outlined in the agreement.
The European Union approved the Vienna deal Monday, a first step towards lifting Europe's economic sanctions against Tehran and the resumption of business ties.
