Iran’s Rouhani receives mandate from supreme leader for 2nd term
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani received the presidential mandate from supreme leader Ali Khamenei at a televised ceremony in Tehran on Thursday. "I confirm the vote and appoint you as president of the republic," Khamenei said, referring to the May 19 election. He also called on Rouhani to pursue a "resistance economy", saying "The enemy's hostility has made us more resistant".
On his part, the Iranian president claimed his country's nuclear deal with the West "is a sign of Iran's goodwill on the international stage", adding "We will never accept isolation".
