Iraq reports rocket Katyusha attack on Green Zone without casualties
Following widespread unconfirmed reports Sunday evening of explosions near the US embassy in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, Iraq’s state news agency has reported it was caused by a “Katyusha rocket crashing inside the area without causing casualties.” Other sources said the US embassy was targeted. Alert sirens were heard briefly in Baghdad after the explosion. The heavily fortified Green Zone is home to government headquarters and foreign embassies. The US. embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in the northern city of Irbil evacuated non-essential staff last week amid heightened US-Iranian tensions and threats.
