Iraqi army captures another ISIS stronghold south of Mosul
Iraqi army forces, along with Sunni militia fighters, captured the center of the city of Al-Shirqat, located about 100 km south of Mosul, from the Islamic State organization on Thursday. Planes from the US-led coalition provided air cover for the operation. Iraqi army reports said ISIS fighters had abandoned Al-Shirqat's hospital, city hall and a number of other public buildings in the center of the city, but others are still fighting against the army forces from within civilian homes or in small groups.
