Iraqi general: We’ve liberated Ramadi
Iraqi army spokesman Monday hailed the capture of central Ramadi and the unfurling of the Iraqi flag over the government building as a great victory. He reported that the ISIS invaders had either been killed or fled. But Maj. Gen. Ismail Al-Mahlawi, one of the commanders of the battle, said that ISIS is fighting out of pockets of resistance in at least 30 percent of the city area. DEBKAfile reported Sunday, that ahead of the Iraqi army’s capture of the center of Ramadi, Islamic State fighters retreated to the city’s northern suburbs and continue to fight there.
