Iraqi government offers cash rewards for al Qaeda fighters
A reward of $17,200 is offered on the Iraqi defense ministry site for each foreign militant killed from Al Qaeda of the Islamic State and the Levant (ISIS). A larger reward of $25,800 is offered for a member’s capture. Baghdad reports that more than 1,000 people were killed in January in terrorist violence.
Friday, ISIS forces briefly overran another Iraqi town, al-Sainiyah near Baiji, midway between Baghdad and Mosul, before withdrawing. The Iraqi army has made no headway against ISIS advances in western Iraq and is reduced to aerial strikes.
