ISIS seizes Syrian army supply route to Aleppo
In a serious setback for Syrian-Hizballah forces backed by Iran and Russia, ISIS Friday seized sections of Highway No. 5 that connects Aleppo to Homs, Hama and Damascus, thereby cutting off the Syrian army’s supply route to Aleppo. DEBKAfile reports that these allied forces have been fighting for days to lift the Syrian rebel siege of the city. They were hoping that their first real military breakthrough in the Syrian war would follow on Russia’s major intervention last month. However ISIS beat them to the draw and gained control of fresh terrain in a surprise offensive.
