ISIS takes responsibility for shooting of Dagestani border policemen
In an announcement on social media on Thursday, ISIS claimed responsiblity for the shooting of a group of Dagestani border policemen in the city of Derbent, located in the Russian republic of Dagestan. One policeman was killed and ten were wounded in the incident Tuesday night during their visit to the city's historic citadel. The attack was apparently perpetrated by a single gunman. ISIS had previously declared its "annexation" of the republic in the North Caucasus region near the border with Chechnya. Between 600 and 900 Dagestanis have travelled to Iraq and Syria to fight alongside ISIS for either ideological or financial reasons.
