Israel and Senegal mend diplomatic fences

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Senegal’s President Macky Sall announced on Sunday that the diplomatic crisis between the two countries is over. They met on the sidelines of the African economic summit in Liberia. Israel downgraded its relations with Senegal and New Zealand for co-sponsoring a UN Security Council resolution in December condemning Jewish settlement construction. The two leaders agreed in Monrovia to return the Israeli ambassador to his post in Senegal, in return for which Senegal will support Israel’s application to be an observer at the European Union.
