Israel Arabs mark annual “Land Day”
This annual event, usually led by Arab Israeli lawmakers, is a protest against what is claimed to have been the seizure of Arab land by the Israeli government. It has often been marked by extreme violence. In recent years, the occasion has acquired an increasingly nationalist character. This year too, Palestinian Authority flags adorn the central event at the Arab town of Sakhnin northeast of Tel Aviv and parades in that town as well as in Arabeh and in a Bedouin village east of the southern town of Beersheba.
