Israel committed to Jordan’s territorial integrity
This statement came after Israel’s finance minister Bezalel Smotrich speaking in Paris denied the existence of a Palestinian people in front of a map of Israel showing expanded borders including the West Bank and a part of Jordan. The foreign ministry in Jerusalem said Israel is committed to the 1994 peace agreement with Jordan and “there has been no change.” In Sharm el-Sheikh, National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi took Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi aside to pledge Israel’s commitment to Jordan’s territorial integrity. The 1994 peace treaty, he said, had been a bulwark of regional stability and security for nearly 30 years.” Smotrich’s comments have raised a storm of criticism in world capitals and at home.
