Israel enforces emergency measures to quell Palestinian terror
The security cabinet early Tuesday approved Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s proposals for de-escalating the current wave of Palestinian terrorist attacks and disturbances by deterrent and preventive measures. One was to demolish the homes of terrorists guilty of murder and assassination; another to heavily reinforce the security and military units charged with maintaining order in Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem. Deep police raids and a presence are already being conducted in the Jerusalem neighborhoods that produce the aggressive Palestinian outbreaks of violence besetting the capital, including rock, firebomb, shooting and stabbing attacks as well as riots. In past week, four Israelis were murdered and 30 injured. In the first crackdown against rioters Monday, 2 Palestinians were killed and 20 injured.
Early Tuesday, security forces lifted the restrictions imposed during the two-day Simhat Torah festival on non-resident Palestinian entry to the Old City.
